9 Rules of Gainer Photography

Sure, taking pictures of your gut isn't rocket science, but if you put a little bit of effort into it, you'll achieve better results. And I, opinionated I, have some suggestions:

1. Shoot Twice

If there's one thing I want to say, it's this: take more photos than you intend to use. In the era of smart phone photography, pictures may be blurred or angled strangely, so it only makes sense to take all photos at least twice. Give yourself room to make mistakes.

2. Post Once

This is personal preference, but I think posting once in a day is about right as far as photos are concerned.

3. Lighting

Turn on the lights, goddamn it. It's not that hard.

4. Setting

You don't have to have a place dedicated to every gaining-related photo you take, but do go ahead and take a quick glance behind you before snapping a photo. If the background of a photo is cluttered, the photo is going to turn out worse. Walk to a different room, or clean the one you're in. Just because we're fat doesn't mean we can't have good taste.

On a similar note, no bathroom mirrors unless there's a good reason for it. Use your front facing camera and prop your phone up on a sink or bookshelf. Buy a phone tripod. In the blessed year 2018, there is no need to rely on mirrors.

5. Pay Attention to Your Face

You've probably noticed you have one, which is a good start. But when you're taking photos, vary your expression across photos. You might find one look better than another. Feel free to clean up facial blemishes if you're in the mood. The pimple you have today will be gone in a day or two anyway. Why immortalize it?

If you're not into face photos, that's fine too. But if you are, let that handsome mug work for you.

6. Track Your Weight

Keep track of when you weighed what so that it's easier to determine what you weigh in a specific picture. Believe me, you'll thank me when it comes time for the next item:

7. Comparison Photos

Who doesn't love a good comparison photo? A good comparison photo. I know not everyone has multiple photos to chose from when he was at his thinnest, but there are things you can do to improve your comparison photos regardless.

Don't use a collage application that leaves a watermark. There are plenty of free apps that don't. Try to match your pose across photos. Find the same clothes or something similar if you can.

8. Clothes

Bring out the tight clothes now and then. Bring out normal clothes that fit too. Shake things up.

9. Variety

Your body may not have many angles, but your photos most definitely should. Don't post the same picture ten times. Don't post the same picture twice. Have a reason that you value to upload a photo.

Anyway

The most important thing is to enjoy gainer photography. If one of my rules doesn't facilitate that, who am I to argue with you? (I'll still argue, but hey, I'm just an idiot on the internet.) Happy gains!
